Dr. McCarthy is active as a Music Director, Guest Conductor, Horn Player, and Music Educator in the Northern Virginia area. She is currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Arlington Concert Orchestra in Arlington, Virginia and an Orchestra Director for the Arlington Public Schools. She served as the Music Director of the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra from 2008-2012, the Loudoun Symphony String Workshop from 2005-2008 and has guest conducted orchestras in Virginia, Louisiana and California.
